Frequently Asked Questions

Can all Surfaces be repaired

Q - Can all Surfaces in the home or workplace be repaired?

A - Put simply yes! It will always depend on the extent of the damage, but we can make invisible cosmetic repairs, that are permanent to all household/workplace surfaces. All without the mess or hassle of a traditional replacement. Don't forget, if we cannot make a repair, we will charge you nothing at the end.

Seeing the repair

Q - Will I be able to see the repair?

A - Looking at the vast majority of repairs, they will be totally invisible. Depending on the damage we need to repair, very close up (less than 1 metre) you may just be able to notice the area has been repaired (especially as you will know where it is), but looking at it normally you will never notice we have repaired the area.

All repairs are colour matched on site. As a result we guarantee a near invisible finish, with no colour difference or repair noticeable within 1 metre of the repaired area. Newly repaired areas may have a slightly different lustre as they will be new, whereas older surfaces may have a slightly different depth of shine.

Will repairs last

Q - Will the repairs last and is the work guaranteed?

A - Yes they will. We use state of the art systems and materials to make repairs. These are resistant to cold and heat and normal wear and tear (cleaning advice will be provided). Repairs will last for years, we also supply a 12 month warranty with all our work (on domestic repairs), so if you have any issues we will sort them out. Please see our warranty information.

Savings

Q - Do I need to clean the repaired area differently?

A -  Yes, cleaning a repaired surface needs some care to ensure it lasts for years

  • Your surface or appliance must not be cleaned for at least 48 hours following completion of the repairs.

  • Abrasive/caustic/bleach based cleaning products and solvent or ammonia based products must not be used as they can damage the repair. Please see our care information for further details on caring for the repairs.

  • A clean damp cloth and mild soap detergents should be used when cleaning the surface.

cleaning differently

Q - What is your 'No Fix, No Fee Guarantee' & what can I save?

A - It's simple, If we cannot make a good repair that you are happy with, we will not charge you at the end. You get the chance to fully inspect the work and sign our paperwork, only then when you have signed to say you are happy do we charge.

As far as savings are concerned, lets assume you have damaged a porcelain basin in your bathroom. You will need a plumber to come and remove the taps and drainage and take out the damaged basin. You will then need a new basin and possibly taps and waste fittings:

  • Plumber costs approx £150 + VAT = £180

  • New Taps if needed approx £50 - £100

  • Fittings £30

  • New Basin £100 - £250

This all comes to at least £360 to replace. For us to do a standard repair costs around £120 saving you at least £240.

These figures are based on the cheapest option which saves you over 40%. Based on mid range plumber costs, we can save you over 80%. On average every £1 you spend with SurfaceMaster saves around £5 on replacement materials and labour.

Also it is not always an option to replace a broken item. We get a lot of calls from customers who's bath, basin etc are all built into a vanity unit or the fittings are no longer able to be matched. Pulling them out will entail breaking wall tiles, making major mess and then having to replace other fittings damaged as a result!

Q - Surely I can just claim on my house insurance?

A - Yes you can. But if you make a claim on your household insurance you will be asked to pay the excess fee. This is typically around £200 - £250 you will then have a claim on your record, so the next time you renew your policy the rate will rocket up. Household insurance is great for big claims or accidents, but generally people try and avoid claims for the smaller damage that occurs. Our method is hassle free, permanent and has no hidden costs.

Environment
booking you in

Q - You say your service is better for the environment, how is it?

A - The products we use have a minimal impact on the environment (as we use a very small amount to make the average repair). Also as we do not need to rip the damaged item out and replace it, we save large amounts of waste going into landfill every year. Read about our carbon footprint here.

Q - What happens once I book you in for a repair?

A - We have set procedure in place to make sure you get the best possible service and you feel safe letting us into your home or workplace:

  • Firstly we will send you a quotation for the repair work please see our Terms & Conditions.

  • If you are happy to proceed with a firm booking, we will email you confirming the date and time of our visit.

  • Our technicians carry a photo ID card, so you know they are from SurfaceMaster.

  • Before the repair commences we may ask you to sign a permission form, agreeing to our terms and allowing us to proceed with the repair.

  • Once the repair is complete, we will undertake a full clean of the area leaving it as we found it.

  • We will then ask you to sign to say that you are happy with the repair and we will explain our Warranty and the instructions for cleaning and looking after your new repair.

  • Only when the repair process above is complete and you are happy with the repair, will we ask for any payment.

Your newly repaired surface is then yours to enjoy for many years to come!
